“I just want to feel like myself again…”

One of the most common things I hear from new mothers is, “I just want to feel like myself again.”
And while that feeling is completely understandable, I gently want to offer a different perspective…
What if you’re not meant to become the old you again?
Motherhood changes us. Not because we’re doing it wrong, but because we’re growing. The woman who existed before your baby arrived carried different responsibilities, different priorities, different experiences. Since becoming a mother, you’ve learned things about yourself that you could never have known before. You’ve loved more deeply, worried more intensely, stretched further than you thought possible, and navigated challenges that have transformed you.
That doesn’t mean you’ve lost yourself.
It means you’re becoming someone new.
In a world that often tells mothers to “bounce back,” there can be so much pressure to return to who you were before. But healing, growing, and adjusting to motherhood isn’t about going backwards. It’s about making space for who you are now.
Some parts of your old self will remain. Some parts may evolve. Some parts may surprise you entirely.
And that’s okay.
You don’t need to rush to find the woman you used to be. You can get curious about the woman you’re becoming.
Be gentle with yourself in this season. Growth can feel uncomfortable, messy, and uncertain, but it can also be beautiful.
You’re not failing because you’ve changed.
You’re changing because you’ve become a mother. ❤️
Please reach out for support if you need it during this season of beginnings 💜
